Kitesurfing in Zandvoort: the spot and the best wind

In short. In Zandvoort you can go kitesurfing from, among other places, the kite zone at Watersportvereniging Zandvoort, the local water sports club, on the south beach about 500 metres from NIUS Beach House. It works best with wind off the sea, from south-west through west to north. From 15 April to 1 October you may only kite from the designated zones.

Where you can kite

Zandvoort has several places where you’re allowed to launch and land. One of them is on the south beach, in front of Watersportvereniging Zandvoort at Strandafgang Paulus Loot 1Z, between beach posts 66.90 and 67.10. From there it’s about 500 metres to NIUS Beach House.

Which wind is good

The coast at Zandvoort runs roughly from north-north-east to south-south-west. Wind off the sea is best: south-west, west, north-west and north. If the wind blows from the east, it’s coming off the land, and if something goes wrong you’ll drift out to sea. Then stay off the water.

The rules through the year

From 15 April to 1 October you may only kite from the designated zones. Outside that period the rules are less strict. The kite season is actually at its best in autumn and winter, with more wind and an emptier beach. Always check the current rules with the council and the club.

Getting on the water safely

Never kite alone, and tell someone where you are.
Watch out for the current along the coast.

After the water

NIUS Beach House is open every day all year round from 9:00 to 22:00. An espresso or matcha before you go out, lunch between two sessions, or a hot meal by the fire after your downwinder.
