In the colder half of the year, Billies Sauna stands on the beach by NIUS. You warm up with a view of the sea, walk into the water and start again. Afterwards, come and sit by our fire.

Our tip

Sauna, then a table for dinner

After 90 minutes of hot and cold, you’ll be hungry. Book your table by the fire in advance, so you won’t have to look for one later.

A session lasts 90 minutes, so book your table for a time at least two hours after your sauna starts. Eating first and then going into the sauna works too, of course.

You book directly with Billies. Afterwards you can always pop into NIUS for something warm, even without a booking.

How it feels

Warm wood, cold sea, nothing else.

You sit on a wooden bench. The stove ticks beside you; in front of you, the beach lies behind glass. Outside the wind blows, inside it’s quiet. After a quarter of an hour you walk across the sand, into the sea, and back into the warmth.

Do it once on a grey day in November and you’ll understand why the sauna stands here in winter rather than in summer.

How it works

90 minutes, three things.

  1. Warm up

    Into the sauna, with a view of the beach and the sea.

  2. Into the sea

    The North Sea is your cold plunge. Cold, quick, and you feel like a new person.

  3. Unwind at NIUS

    Before and after your session you’re welcome at ours, with the fire lit and something warm on the table.

Yes. Billies Beach Sauna stands on the beach by NIUS Beach House, at beach access 5, from 16 September to 30 April.

How long does a sauna session last?

A session lasts 90 minutes. You alternate the heat of the sauna with a dip in the North Sea.

Can I eat or drink something after the sauna?

Yes. Before and after your session you’re welcome at NIUS, which is open every day from 9:00 to 22:00.
